National Recognition
Memorial Regional Hospital is a Blue Distinction Center + for Spine Surgery and a Level 1 Trauma Center. These designations reflect our expertise in delivering care and our ability to treat the most complex spine conditions and injuries. We also have a proven track record of lower hospital readmission rates after spine surgery and fewer reoperations.
The Memorial Neuroscience Institute Spine Center is a collaboration with Memorial Rehabilitation Institute. Under one umbrella of care, you have access to a full range of treatment options.
Spine Center Services
Your first step is an expert evaluation of your medical history and imaging tests. We typically recommend starting with non-surgical spine treatments, such as physical therapy or pain management strategies.
Sometimes, non-surgical treatments don’t provide relief, or they’re not your best option. In that case, we set you up with a neurosurgeon to discuss spine surgery. Throughout your journey, our team is by your side to get you the right care at the right time.
Looking for a Second Opinion?
If you’re not satisfied with the care you’ve received elsewhere and would like a second opinion, we’ll provide one. You can trust that our multidisciplinary team will conduct a thorough assessment and provide you with a customized treatment plan.
Your peace of mind is important. Let us help you consider all your treatment options.
Conditions We Treat
Your spine is made up of many bones, discs and soft tissues. It supports your body, protects your spinal cord and allows you to bend and twist. An injury or other condition affecting your spine can interfere with every aspect of your life.
With so many different spine conditions, having an experienced team is vital. At Memorial, our doctors trained at some of the leading programs around the country. They bring their expertise to every patient they meet.
At our Spine Center, we offer care for a wide range of conditions that cause back and neck pain, including:
- Congenital spine conditions: Spinal conditions you have a birth.
- Degenerative spine conditions: Diseases that occur due to wear and tear, such as degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis and compression fractures.
- Herniated disc: A disc that is slipped, bulging or ruptured.
- Nerve pain (radiculopathy): Pain due to a disc or bone pressing on the spinal cord or nerves; also called a pinched nerve. Sciatica is a type of radiculopathy that travels down the leg.
- Spinal deformities: Irregular curves in the spine, including scoliosis and complex spinal deformities.
- Spinal injuries: Fractures, sprains and strains that cause pain and affect spinal function.
- Spinal tumors: Cancerous and non-cancerous tumors occurring in the spine. For spine tumors, we coordinate care with specialists at the Memorial Cancer Institute.
- Spondylolisthesis: Slippage of one vertebra over the vertebra below it, usually due to degenerative changes or an injury.
- Transverse myelitis: A neuroimmune disorder that causes inflammation of the spinal cord.
